I have actually done this Beret/ hat, last year and wore it a lot, I love the look of it, I think it is fashionable, cool and special and most important handmade by you!
Isn't that the best way to feel special :)
I have used the lion brand pound of love yarn in the color charcoal with a hook size 6MM

Abbreviation:
sl st: slip stitch
st: stitch
hdc: half double crochet
ch: chain
hdctog: half double crochet together
sctog: single crochet together
Row1: ch2, 10 hdc in the circle, join with sl st.
Row2: ch2, 2hdc in every st, join with sl st (20)
Row3: ch2,( 2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in the next st), repeat till end of circle, join with a sl st. (30)
Row4: ch2, (2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in the next 2 st) repeat () till end, join. (40)
Row5: ch2, (2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in the next 3 st) repeat till end, join. (50)
Row6: ch2, ( 2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in the next 4 st) repeat till end of the row, join. (60)
Row 7: ch2 ,( 2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in the next 5 st) repeat (70)
Row8: ch2, ( 2hdc in the next st, 1hdc in the next 6 st) repeat (80)

Row 10-23: working in a spiral, hdc in every st.
Row 24: 3hdctog, hdc in every st till st 49, 3hdctog, hdc in every st till end of row.
Row 25: repeat row 10
Row 26-27: sc in every stitch.
Row 28: 3 sctog, sc in every st till st 49, 3sctog, sc in every st till marker or end row
Row 29-30: sc in every st.
Row 31: repeat row 28.
Row 31-36: sc in every st.
Row 37: sl st in every stitch, fasten off
The pompom is optional, initially I didn't include it , but later I decided it was more fun with one, so it is totally up to you.
